Orbus - Intro

It was a gloomy autumn morning. A thick heavy rain was pouring out of the dark clouds above down to the black asphalt below giving the air a dense feel. The weighing sadness of today could be felt everywhere. Surrounding you... Touching you... Pressuring you... It stuck to the skin like the rain, but it didn't fall to the ground. No, it clinged like hope to a dying heart.
This is a suburb... To the left and right a line of houses stretch out. In front of them a line of trees heavily swayed under the strong wind and rain. Everything would be empty if it wasn't for two figures standing in this cold rain under an umbrella that seemed a size too small. A tall figure, a mother saying goodbye to a small figure, her daughter.
It was a classic scene, really... Mother leaning over her, adjusting her jacket, making sure that her little one doesn't get soaked to the skin. Little one's wings also needed to be covered, which always presented a problem. You see, no jacket seemed to be made for a small girl with wings, so she always wore them several sizes too big. A little bag containing a sandwich was passed to the little one, inviting a faint smile to her face. Little Mary raised that smile up to her mother's rain soaked face. And seeing it made her heart feel warm for a few seconds. Thoughts of acceptance ran across her mind. This woman truly understood her. This woman knows who and what she is and accepts it. This woman loves her. For that's what love is...knowing, accepting and caring.
Lillian bent slightly and gave Mary a kiss on the cheek. Both smiled gently. She told Mary to be safe. And then she turned around and stepped on that black, wet asphalt...to the sound of screeching tires.

The birth of an Angel

The wind's lazily dragging sleepy leaves across the asphalt, and the road ahead looks like it's leading me into darkness. An occasional star just above the asphalt is shinning down on the white below it. I'm walking along with the wind thinking about Christmas. Yes, I remember my last Christmas. I also remember who I was waiting for then. The way I was writing poems on a piece of paper and feeling cross because my handwriting was so lousy. Nobody remembers this, while that thought is as cold as ice in my heart, hurting me and dragging me down.
I raise my glance toward the end of the path and I notice the streetlights lighting the way in front of me. I look at the snow slowly falling into their light and silently humming as it falls to the ground. Frozen crystals fall on my face, melting as soon as they touch it and start flowing down like tears... I don't know which shines the most, but I know which is colder...
I have no desire to go anywhere, except continue down this path to find an end to this place. I want the snow to stop and the sun to shine through right this second. I want children to swoop in, as fast as the wind and I want snowmen to start growing around me. I want to hear the children's echoing laughter and I want nothing but smiles to fill the air around me. But all I get is silence, silence and the hum of the snow, as I feel it's coldness upon my face.
I continued my walk through the park, following the street lamps like fireflies until I noticed a park bench in front of me. It wasn't empty and there was practically no snow on it. On it sat a little girl dressed entirely in old clothes. There were brown sports on her clothes, like it was dragged through mud. At some places she even had tears in it, tinted dark brownish red...like dried blood.
She was pale and she looked scared out of her mind. She looked like she was hiding in the light from the thick darkness. Like she just escaped from it. She was turned away from me at that moment, so she didn't see me coming. I got closer to her as quietly as I possibly could until I was but a few feet away from her and then I asked her softly "Sorry, little girl?"
She turned around suddenly and grasped the bench in reflex so she wouldn't fall off. Her eyes were wide open in fear as she looked at me. Her face was flushed and she looked like she was crying just a moment ago.
"I'm sorry little girl. I didn't mean to scare you", I said feeling sad for this little creature.
"Wh-Who are you?" she asked me, eyes still open wide in fear.
"I'm sorry, b-but, I was just walking and I saw you on this bench. Are you cold?".
"No", she said, shaking her head slightly. "I have nothing"
"I know you have nothing", I said grief stricken by her words, "I didn't mean to ask you anything".
She lowered her eyes down, "Then, you really are a rarity" and she flinched, letting a tear run down her face.
"Wait", I said and pulled a handkerchief out of my pocket, "Take this".
She extended her arm a little bit and then she stopped. She gave me a long and hard gaze, straight into my eyes and then she took her hand back. "Why are you here?" she asked me, wiping her tears with her hand.
"You could say I'm walking down memory lane" I said with a faint smile on my face hoping she would notice it.
"Everybody seems to live in memories" she said, with her eyes focused on the snow and then she added "Don't you know that can destroy a person?".
